Well, there comes a time that it happens to all of us. From time to time all of us accidentally end up getting a virus. No one ever knows how it got on the machine. All they do know is that it was not them.
Here are some basic steps to help you fix your problem or at least narrow down the issue. First things first, you want to make sure you have a virus program installed on the computer, and that it is running properly. That means, make sure it scans regularly and the definition file is updated. If you have AVG Installed Proceed to step 1.
1) Run a full scan. If you are having problems opening AVG try re-starting your computer in safe mode, then run AVG.
2) After you run AVG, more than likely it will come up with a list of infected files. Go ahead and clean them or if it gives the option to remove do so. Sometimes you can only move an item to the vault and have to wait until you restart before you can remove it.
3) After successfully running AVG go ahead and download a program called Malaware Malbytes. It is a program that will scan your computer for Malaware. This is a great program and best of all its FREE. You can find a link on the right side.
4) Now, after you run both of those programs, and have scanned your computer with both. Go ahead and restart your machine. After your machine finally reboots, check and see if everything is working as normal. If you are still having problems launching your browser. Goto step 5.
5) Download the program called CWShredder and Hijack this. These two programs will help identify any potential programs with your web browser. Links for both are provided on the right. After you download CWShredder and run it. Go ahead and remove anything it comes up with, otherwise just click ok and exit out.
6) Hijack this is a little more complicated to use, but is more intimidating than anything. If you are unsure of a line in Hijack this, just simply google it. You should be able to find out by the results quite quickly if it is something phishy. Also, you can always save the log file and post it on here or the hijack this forums. Both could be helpful.
If I respond of course.
7) After all this, if still it is not working correctly, try googling your problem. This is more of a general solution that will solve a majority of the problems. Remember, google is your friend.
